Wanderlust...

Although Morag and I are "just starting out," we've been lucky enough to enjoy some great trips. Please take a look at some of our recent adventures below.

Family members insisted that we put together a Family Album. We make no promises about how interesting it will be.

Nara, Japan

Nara is one of our favorite places in Japan, and it has something to offer almost everyone. It's home to the oldest wooden building in the world (the Horyuji) and the largest bronze Buddha in Japan. As Japan's first "permanent" capitol, Nara was the cradle of Japanese Buddhism and the birthplace of classical Japanese culture. The Nara National Museum has an extensive collection of religious art and early ceremonial artifacts, one of the best in all of Japan. Finally, as home to thousands of semi-tame deer, Nara Park is arguably the world's largest petting zoo...

But superlatives aside, we remember Nara as a tranquil place. Despite the crowds and commercialization, the lush natural surroundings and ancient structures always managed to soothe the stress of travel. Even after repeated visits, the city appeals to us in a mysterious, pre-articulate way. We hope our detailed description of Nara will pursuade you to visit, too.
